Legacy Systems
Our "cradle to grave" philosophy: "If it's got a Hewlett-Packard badge on it, we can help you."
The word 'legacy' can have different meanings for different users. For those with the latest release of an operating system, this can mean anything running on a previous release. For us at Enline, it means almost anything with a HP badge on it. Our 'cradle to grave' philosophy with the HP community has been built up since 1985 and encompasses equipment that goes back beyond then.
If HP no longer supports your equipment, and you need to maintain, expand or replicate it, for example, Services & Infrastructure can help. Our list of legacy customers includes blue chip companies, Public Sector bodies and smaller organisations, all of whom rely upon our expertise and ability to provide the equipment they need.
We carry a comprehensive inventory including products dating back to the very earliest HP systems. Although we cannot claim to be able to supply absolutely anything, we can source most products from a network of assured suppliers if we do not hold the product or part you need in stock.
Where HP has ceased manufacture, there may be third party suppliers of compatible products, such as Bering Inc who continue to dedicate development to the Legacy HP market.
Here are a few of the legacy system areas that Services & Infrastructure can help you with:
- HP NetServers and appliance servers.
- HP Series 1000 - Since 1985 Enline have been a leading supplier of HP 1000 Series systems, real-time, computer systems, peripherals and parts. Such is our depth of knowledge on these systems, that Hewlett-Packard themselves are counted as one of our customers.
- Pre PA-RISC servers and workstations - ATE, test and measurement or other proprietary embedded environments rely upon specific hardware such as 9836, 300 series or Apollo workstations.
Our experience of HP's full historic range gives us the ability to guide you through compatibility and upgrade issues.
Who Uses Legacy equipment?
Workstations
HP recently discontinued its range of PA-RISC Systems. Enline continues to supply them to companies who recognise the power of the technology and have a continuing desire to work on a familiar platform. These include:
C8000 – the highest performance PA-RISC workstation, provided to a UK Energy Company.
B180L – mid-range workstation originally manufactured in 1999 used in embedded control systems throughout the world, and provided to a number of Manufacturing and Flow control companies.
HP’s original Workstations ran on HP Basic, using proprietary chips and software. These included the 9816, one of which we recently sold to a precision design company. If it isn’t broken (or fixable) why change it?
Servers
A large White Goods manufacturer recently purchased a system to replicate its existing system, needing an HPUX server that would run earlier versions of HPUX (10).
HP’s old real time computers, the 1000 Series, were manufactured from the 1960’s to the 1980’s. Many companies still use them because of their reliability and the cost of changing them as a part of a wider systems and infrastructure, which can run into millions of pounds! We continue to supply systems ranging form the 1960’s to the last model made to organisations in Transport, Government and Commerce.
XY recorder
Even the most advanced of companies sometimes has a specific environment where true legacy equipment is used. A Power Plant manufacturer recently purchased a 7035B XY Recorder – last made in the 1960’s!
Printers/Plotters
HP’s tradition as a manufacturer of plotters stretches back to its early days. Many of our customers rely on HP DesignJet plotters that are no longer supported by HP. Enline continues to service these in design, manufacturing, planning and a variety of other environments.
Our service is enhanced by partnerships with established organisations such as:
Bering Technology Inc.
Bering Technology Inc. is based in California, USA. The company has specialised in designing and manufacturing storage technology products for a myriad of organisations including the US Defence Department. Since 1981 Bering have been making modern storage solutions for legacy HP computers. Bering specialise in hard disk, removable disk and tape backup subsystems for HP 9000 and HP 1000 real-time computers.
Legacy HP 9000 and HP 1000 computers have a HP-IB or MAC (Multi-Access Controller) disk interface. These are HP proprietary interfaces that evolved from the company's instrumentation business. If you have a vintage HP system with one of these interfaces HP does not manufacture new disk drives supporting these interfaces and does not provide support. But as European Distributor and Support Partner for Bering, Services & Infrastructure provides the solution to your problem, with drop in replacements for:
- HP 9133D/H/L, HP 9134D/H/L
- HP 9153B/C
- HP 7906A-M
- HP 7907A
- HP 7912/7914
- HP 7920A-S, HP 7925S
- HP 793xA
